“We came to Canada as seniors through family sponsorship, hoping to live close to our children and receive their support. However, after we arrived, our children relocated to the United States for work, and we suddenly found ourselves navigating life in a new country on our own.
The Chinese Association of Mississauga has been a vital support for us. They helped us understand housing options, apply for government benefits, and connect with important
services in the community. Their staff treated us with patience and respect, and we are very grateful for their ongoing support.

“I arrived in Canada with CLB Level 1 and joined the LINC program at the Chinese Association of Mississauga. With the support of dedicated teachers and a welcoming learning environment, I gradually improved my English over three years and reached CLB Level 5. This progress gave me the confidence to pursue my dream of becoming a Personal Support Worker. After upgrading my language skills, I was able to enroll in a college PSW program, successfully graduate, and secure my first job in the field. I am very grateful for the support that helped me transform my life and achieve my career goal."

“When I first came to Canada, I felt very lonely and unsure of how to build a new life here. My neighbour introduced me to the Chinese Association of Mississauga, and I decided to join their
community connection programs, including the singing group. Through these activities, I met many friendly people and gradually built strong friendships. I no longer feel lonely, and CAM has truly become my second home in Canada."

Community connection

“We came to Canada in 2019 as a family of four, filled with hope for a new beginning. Soon after, our situation became very difficult—my husband became ill and was unable to work, and I had to carry the responsibility of supporting our family while studying in LINC Level 4. Life felt overwhelming at times, and I was uncertain about our future. When I connected with the Chinese Association of Mississauga, everything began to change.
The staff took time to understand my situation and encouraged me to explore my interests. Through their guidance, I discovered my passion for the beauty industry and was referred to the Advanced Esthetics & Spa Operations program at Oxford College. Today, I have graduated and am now taking steps toward building my career in the field I love. CAM gave me not only direction, but also hope and confidence to rebuild my life in Canada.”
